Make A Closet Nursery

Put your clothes elsewhere and turn your walk-in closet into your new baby's room.

When space is limited, finding a place for a new baby's nursery can be trying. However, if you have a walk-in closet, turn that space into the baby's room. Keeping the baby there means he is very close without being in the same room as you. Making your walk-in closet into the new baby's room requires just a little time and planning. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all storage items, clothing and shoes from the closet. Starting with a clean slate helps ensure you have adequate room for the baby and baby supplies.

2. Paint the inside of the closet. Avoid dark colors, which make spaces appear smaller. Use your preferred indoor wall paint in either flat or semi-gloss. Tape the door frames and any built-in shelving units before painting to prevent paint on these areas. Leave the paint to dry overnight and add additional coats, as needed.

3. Place the crib parts in the closet. Assemble the crib according to the manufacturer's instructions; directions vary based on the crib size and style. To prevent potential injury, always follow the directions included with the crib. Choose a full-sized crib or smaller portable crib, depending on the size of the closet. Place the assembled crib against one of the closet walls.

4. Place the chosen baby bedding in the crib. To help the room seem larger, stick with lighter colored bedding sets. Also avoid loud patterns, which may make the room look smaller.

5. Place a dresser in the closet. Choose a wall that allows you to have a 24-inch clearance between the dresser and the crib.

6. Position a changing pad with an anti-slip bottom on top of the dresser. This eliminates the need for a separate changing table. If the pad you chose does not have an anti-slip base, make one out of a piece of rubber shelf liner. Cut the liner to the dimensions of the changing pad and place it on the top of the dresser. Then place the changing pad on top.

7. Place a throw rug in the room that matches your chosen bedding.

8. Hang a mirror on the wall across from the entrance. Mirrors open up a room, making it look larger. For a baby-friendly look, look for a mirror with a wooden frame that matches the room's motif.

9. Use the remaining shelves and clothes rods to hang the baby's clothes and organize baby supplies such as diapers, sheets and blankets.
