Rexlace is a system of nontoxic plastic string, beads and other fittings that is used by children to create bracelets and other craft items. It is often used in after school and summer activities, and it is recommended for children over three years of age. One of the key tools used in Rexlace craft activities is known as the EZ Gimper. It is a small plastic disk, similar to a coat button, with four slotted holes. Each hole is used when joining two strands of Rexlace string together to form a knot.
Instructions
1. Cut 12 inches (one foot) off of each length of Rexlace string using your scissors.
2. Hold the EZ Gimper with your left hand (or your right hand if you are left-handed) so that the indented side with the white numbers faces you and the numbers are lined up in order (1 above 2 and 3 above 4).
3. Thread the ends of one strand of string through the slots marked 1 and 3, and the ends of the other strand through slots 2 and 4.
4. Cross the strand threaded through slot 1 downward over the thread perpendicular to it in slot 2.
5. Cross the strand threaded through slot 2 over the thread in slot 1 so that it is parallel to the thread in slot 4.
6. Cross the strand in slot 3 over the strand in slot 2 so that it faces upright.
7. Cross the strand threaded through slot 4 over the strand in slot 3 and under the strand in slot 1.
8. Pull on the ends of all of the strands to tighten the stitch.
9. Repeat steps 4 through 8 until all of the string is crossed into a woven pattern. Make sure not to cross parallel strings and smooth out the strings before crossing so that they do not twist.
