Build Storage For Kids' Rooms

While keeping your child's rooms and his things picked up on a regular basis is a large challenge for anyone, building storage for his room doesn't have to be hard. Using fold-up fabric or mesh storage cubes, you and your child can keep toys sorted and organized and making a shelf to put them on keeps the cubes themselves tidy. With little effort or cost, you can build storage for your kid's rooms in an hour.

Instructions

1. Hold the two side boards upright. Measure down 17 inches and mark a line horizontally across the width of both boards. Space the boards about 3 feet apart with the pencil lines facing in.

2. Place a shelf board down on the ground and line it flush along the bottom edges of the side boards. Nail through the sides and into the bottom board, spacing the nails every 4 inches.

3. Set the middle shelf between the boards and line up the top edge of the shelf with the pencil line. Nail through the sides again to attach the shelf board.

4. Place the top over the shelves, leaving a 2-inch overhang on each side. Nail down the top with nails 4 inches apart and into the side boards.

5. Sand the unit well to remove potential splinters and smooth edges and corners. Stain or paint the piece, as desired.

6. Open up the storage cubes and place two, side by side, on each shelf. Each cube can be filled with a different type of play toy. Sort out books, stuffed animals, building or car toys and costume toys from one another.
