Build A Men'S Professional Wardrobe

When it comes to being in the work force, you need to look sharp. The old adage "you never get a second chance to make a first impression" could not be more true when it comes to business. Here are some tips on build a starter wardrobe for the professional in your life. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Purchase two good suits. Even in today's casual society, wearing a suit is still the standard when it comes to working in a professional place. And if you're thinking you're going to get hit hard in the wallet, don't fret. There are many discount suit brokers around that will outfit you with a couple of nice suits for a few hundred bucks. Also look for department stores to have yearly clear-outs of last year's inventory. When it comes to wearing a suit, the difference between this year's and last year's fashion is minimal at best.

2. Add complementary ties and shirts. As you start to build your wardrobe, the more important pieces are the ties and dress shirts. This is because you can change the appearance of your two suits radically with an array of five dress shirts and five ties. Again, look for sales.

3. Pick up a pair of khaki pants. Many professional places of work have gone to something called "casual Fridays," where wearing a suit is no longer required. In its place, add a pair of khakis with one of your dress shirts. Depending on the work place, a tie may or may not be necessary.

4. Buy two good pairs of shoes. When it comes to shoes, spending money is always advisable. An adage in business is that people look to your shoes and fingernails to determine pedigree. The conventional wisdom is to buy one pair of black dress shoes and one pair of brown dress shoes. Whatever the case may be, make sure they match your suits.

5. Throw a couple of sweaters into the mix. These are a nice option on "casual Fridays" as well as over your dress shirt in the winter if it's particularly cold outside. Again, look for the sales and make sure they coordinate with your previously purchased items.

6. Build your professional men's wardrobe over time. Make it a point to buy something for your professional wardrobe every three months. That way you will always cycle in new pieces. Also, after a couple of years of constant use, it's time to let go of the threads and donate them. You don't want to be the guy at the office bragging how you've worn a suit for 10 years.
