A shoe collection can get out of control in your house if you don't keep them organized. There's nothing worse than tripping over a big pair of sneakers in the middle of the night. Building a shoe and boot cabinet provides a storage space for all your shoes in a convenient location. Best of all, a door hides the shoes when they should not be seen. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Review some cabinet patterns online and determine the overall length, width and height you want your cabinet to match.
2. Count out how many shoe slots you'll need and determine the amount of space necessary for each slot.
3. Measure and cut the frame pieces of plywood for the outside of the cabinet according to your desired measurements. Cut a piece of particleboard for the back of the cabinet.
4. Build an outside frame for the cabinet using four pieces of wood, two for the sides, one for the bottom and one for the top. Position the screws directly up from the bottom and down from the top for a firm hold.
5. Measure and cut pieces of plywood to use as vertical dividers. Install the vertical divider pieces with wood glue, placing them firmly into place. Let the wood glue dry completely before continuing.
6. Measure and cut pieces of plywood to use as horizontal dividers. Set the cabinet on its back and install the horizontal pieces between the vertical dividers with wood glue. If you are concerned about the weight of the shoes, add two or three finishing nails for extra support. Let the wood glue dry completely before continuing.
7. Tack the particleboard back onto the cabinet with 6-penny nails.
8. Install the cabinet doors using the cabinet door installation kit.
