Cheap Home Organization Tips

An organized home runs more smoothly.

Getting your home organized doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. A good place to start is by decluttering; go through your home and clear out the junk by either throwing it away or having a garage sale. Then go buy some inexpensive storage bins, boxes and drawer dividers to use in each room and sort what's left according to what's most important to you and how often it gets used.

Organize Your Entryway

Keep shoes, coats, hats and umbrellas in your entryway organized with stackable wicker or plastic baskets near the front door. Coat racks, hooks and pegs are an easy way to keep track of coats, hats and scarves, and a small basket will work for keys and gloves. A wire mesh waste basket is great for umbrellas.

Closets and Drawers

Use drawer partitions and organizers to keep drawers in every room neat. Mail can be kept in an entryway desk drawer and compartmentalized with a drawer partition. Bedroom drawers can be tidier as well if you insert organizers. Inexpensive shelving systems for your closets can be found at home stores; these systems transform your closets from messy to marvelous. Closets can be organized with hanging organizers that hold everything from shoes to belts to scarves.

Ktichens and Baths

Keep all of your basic cooking tools in self-contained units. A lazy Susan is great for keeping condiments handy. Cluster the staples you use in everyday cooking, such as salt, pepper and flour. Keep knives near the chopping block as well. Organize canned goods and spices by type and on tiered shelves for easy access.

In the bathroom, use wire or plastic storage containers to hold hair care products, soaps and washcloths. Choose units that hang from your shower head or can be attached to the wall with suction cups to keep countertops free and less cluttered.
