Create a box to border text and graphics.
Adding a box to your document can a great way to draw attention to your text or graphics. Adobe InDesign provides a variety of ways to add a box around objects. The most obvious tool is the Rectangle tool, which is one of the shape tools. You can use the rectangle tool to add a graphical box separate from any other document elements. You add a box around text by adding a stroke to your text frame. You can add a box around graphic elements by adding a stroke to your graphic frame as well.
Instructions
Rectangle Tool
1. Select the "Rectangle" tool.
2. Draw a box. If desired, enter precise dimensions for the box in the "X" and "Y" boxes in the "Control" palette.
3. Click on the "Window" menu and select "Stroke." Change the "Weight" in the "Stroke" palette to the desired size.
4. Click on the "Window" menu and select "Color." Select the square ring in the "Color" palette and choose the desired color for the box's stroke.
5. Click on the "Fill" box, the square shape in the Color palette. Then click on "None," designated by a box with a red diagonal line.
Text Frame
6. Select the "Type" tool.
7. Draw a text frame. If desired, enter precise dimensions for the box in the "X" and "Y" boxes in the "Control" palette.
8. Enter text if desired.
9. Select the "Selection" tool. Click on the "Stroke" box on the tools palette. Change the "Weight" to the desired stroke size.
10. Select the "Color" palette. Choose the desired colors for the stroke and fill.
Graphic Frame
11. Select the "Rectangle Frame" tool.
12. Draw a rectangle the size that you want your box. If desired, enter precise dimensions for the box in the "X" and "Y" boxes in the "Control" palette.
13. Place an image if desired.
14. Click on the "Stroke" box on the tools palette. Change the "Weight" to the desired stroke size.
15. Select the "Color" palette. Choose the desired color for the stroke.
