Make Simple Mother'S Day Gifts With Children

Children enjoy creating homemade Mother's Day gifts.

Mother's Day is a day when there is a collective display of appreciation for all that mothers do. Children especially are excited to show their appreciation for their moms. What better day to combine children's love of creative expression and gift creation than Mother's Day? With a little creativity and preparation, you can help children create a homemade Mother's Day gift that will be treasured for a lifetime.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Talk to children about what they want to make. Let the children give their input; they may know more about their mom's likes and dislikes than you think and may have a few projects in mind. The children will be more engaged if the project is their idea.

2. Take a trip to the local craft store to purchase supplies. Make a list and know the supplies your project requires. Before going to the craft store, check the store's website for sales, discounts and coupons. So the children feel like they are a part of the shopping experience, give each child a list of his own.

3. Allow the children to help you set up for the project. If the children will be helping you cut, make sure the scissors are age appropriate. Keep in mind, the more organized the set up, the easier the clean up.

Homemade Soap Balls

4. Help the children make mom homemade soap balls. Soap balls can be used for a relaxing bath or to make closets and drawers smell wonderful.

5. Organize supplies. You will need a large bowl, a wooden spoon, 2 cups of soap flakes, 1/4 cup of water, food coloring and fragrance.

6. Allow the children to mix the water, fragrance and food coloring together and set aside. Let them use as much color and fragrance as needed to accomplish the color and smell desired.

7. Help the children stir in the soap flakes; the consistency will be thick and crumbly.

8. Show the children shape the mixture into small balls. Pack each ball tight and smooth. Wrap each soap ball in netting. Let the children tie the netted soap ball closed with ribbon. For a special touch, allow the children to attach a special Mother's Day note to each ball.

Homemade Coupons

9. Help children create Mother's Day coupons that mom can use whenever she wishes. The coupons can be used for anything that mom can use help with, such as household chores, hugs or quiet time.

10. Help the children write out the coupons on pieces of paper. Cut to the desired shape and size.

11. Encourage the children to decorate the coupons by adding glitter, pictures or ribbon.
