Manage A Clothes Closet

A few easy tips will help you successfully manage your closet.

The closet is often the area of the home that is the most cluttered and disorganized, making important items difficult to find. To keep your clothing closet orderly, it's best to employ some management tools that will make your home a little more organized and your daily routine noticeably more efficient. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all the items from your closet.

2. Add all the necessary storage items into the empty closet, such as the shoe rack for the back of the door, small bookshelves for the back wall or closet corner, hangers in various colors and storage bins for the floor.

3. Place the clothing and shoes that are off-season in the storage bins on the floor. For instance, if you are cleaning out your closet in the spring, place all your boots, coats, scarves and hats in the bins. All clothing that is not in season should be stored away to make room for the clothes you'll be wearing the next few months.

4. Hang curtains in between different types of clothing for more manageability. Use a curtain to separate dressy clothes from casual ones, and to distinguish work clothing from outfits you'd wear to a party.

5. Hang in-season clothing on the hangers that most match their color scheme after separating them into sections with the curtains. For instance, all red, maroon and pink clothing belongs on the red hangers; light blue, navy, and turquoise clothing hangs on blue hangers.

6. Place all the shoes for the season in the shoe rack on the back of the closet door. Arrange the shoes in order of how you wear them the most often. For instance, work shoes should be placed at the bottom of the shoe rack so they'll be easier to grab on your way out the door.

7. Arrange your accessories and jewelry on the bookshelf in the closet. Use one shelf for necklaces and bracelets, and another for ties, belts and suspenders.

8. Hang a mirror on the main wall of the closet, so that you can get a good look of how the space should look when it's completely organized. This will motivate you to keep the area neat and manageable.

9. Place an area rug that matches your personal style in the center of the closet to make it more visually appealing and further influence you to keep the space tidy.
