Build An Under The Bed Storage Box

Build an Under the Bed Storage Box

Building an under the bed storage box is the best way to use space that might otherwise go to waste. Choosing the size and shape of the storage box affects the type of material to use when building an under the bed storage box. Remember to measure the space between the floor and the bottom of the box springs before beginning this project. With many options and accessories available on the market to help finish this project, the only issue is the investment. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place the four pieces of 1-by-4-by-36-inch lumber on the worktable. Apply glue to the ends of two of the pieces. Place them between the ends on the other two to form a box. Secure them with the 4-penny finish nails (two nails on each end). Clean up excess glue with a damp cloth.

2. Put the 36-by-37 1/2-by-1/2-inch plywood on the worktable. Measure in from the edges and make several marks at 3/4-inch. Set the framing square on the marks and draw a line around the perimeter of the plywood.

3. Apply a bead of glue to the center of the exposed edges of the box. Place the 1/2-inch plywood on the box with drawn perimeter facing up. Secure the plywood to the box with the 1-inch drywall screws. Clean up excess glue with a damp cloth.

4. Stand the box on one edge. Measure from one side and mark the center. Measure from the center and make a mark at 1 1/2 inches in both directions. Next, measure from the top of the box and make a mark on the 1 1/2-inch marks 1-inch from the top.

5. Dill holes on the marks with a 3/16-inch drill bit. Insert the screws for the cabinet pull from inside the box. Align the screw holes on the cabinet pull with the screws in the box and tighten them with a screwdriver.

6. Lay the box on the worktable with the bottom side facing up. Set the four casters on the corners of the plywood. Secure them to the plywood with wood screws. Notice that three of the holes on the plate of the casters install through the plywood into the lumber. The fourth hole requires a 1/2-inch screw because it secures only to the plywood.
