Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide where you want the shelf to sit. A low shelf across the bottom of the closet is good for shoes, while a taller shelf over the top of the closet provides space for out-of-season clothing.

2. Mark the height of shelf on opposite walls of the closet using chalk. Measure the distance between the marks and the ground to make sure that they are identical. This is where your shelf supports sit.

3. Cut two 8-inch lengths from a 1-by-2-inch board.

4. Nail both lengths to either wall where you placed the chalk mark. These supports should be positioned horizontally so that they will support the shelf.

5. Measure the distance from one closet wall to the other.

6. Cut a length of 1-by-12-inch board equal to the measurement in Step 5.

7. Place the new length of wood on top of the supports in the closet.
