Bifold doors can be used to hide appliances
Bifold doors are ideal for areas that don't have enough room for a regular single-panel door to open. They can also offer a solution to odd-size doorway openings, including closets. There are a number of companies that make custom bifold doors for non-standard sizes. Tracks
If you want bifold doors installed, you'll have a number of choices to make. Many closets have bifold doors that slide on tracks on the floor, but they don't all need to have tracks in place to work. In fact, if you're installing bifold doors for an office, walk-in pantry, walk-in closet or other walk-in area, you probably don't want tracks on the floor that will be easy to trip over. You'll want the doors to slide on a track on the upper support of the entryway instead. With custom doors, you can specify the exact length of track you want, and the door company can create doors to accommodate your measurements.
Solid and Slatted Doors
For closets and other private areas, consider both solid doors and slatted varieties. While solid doors will close off the area completely, slatted doors have vents that can be opened to allow airflow into the area. A closet with a lot of woolens might need a solid door to prevent moth access, while summer clothes will be less likely to develop mold or mildew in humid areas if there's air flow through vents. Again, the doors can be made to fit any size opening from a small linen closet to a large dressing room.
Special-Use Doors
In children's rooms, you might want custom doors finished with a high gloss paint that's easily cleaned. For a home office or solarium, though, you could have glass doors or doors with many panes made to let in light. For narrow doorways, a single bifold door might suffice, especially if the space isn't used often or is not on display, such as a guest room closet or broom closet.
Measuring
You can take your own measurements and contact a custom door company on your own, or contact one that sends a representative in to measure and take notes. If you've done a lot of home improvement and know exactly what you want, a DIY approach is fine.
