Pegboard Projects

Objects such as wicker basket can be hung on pegboard.

Pegboard is a thin board with evenly spaced small holes that go completely through the board. Pegboard as well as various types of hooks and metal posts can be purchased at hardware and building supply stores. The board can be painted any color and hooks come in different colors as well. Pegboard provides an innovative and low cost way to maximize storage and increase organization in a room. Does this Spark an idea?

Garage Storage

Pegboard has been popularly used to store tools such as hammers, saws, and wrenches in garages and workshops. Pegboard can be attached to the walls of a garage to store more than just tools. Buckets of various sizes can be attached to hooks. Place labels on the outside of the buckets to show what you are storing inside. Place cloths for washing cars, garden gloves, or any other small items in the buckets. This will make for a more organized garage.

Kitchen

You may not have thought of attaching pegboard to the back splash area or other walls in your kitchen, but doing so gives you more storage options. You can place hooks in the pegboard so you can hang wicker baskets for produce or bread. Create extra shelving for spices or other small items by placing a small shelf on two metal posts connected to the pegboard. This works well in kitchens that are small and do not have many storage options.

Craft Rooms

Rather than stuffing all of your scrapbooking or other craft supplies in plastic drawers, keep them organized and neatly displayed by hanging them on pegboard attached to the wall above your work space. You can hang rolls of tape or stickers on metal posts and place different types of scissors or other cutting tools on small hooks. As you acquire new tools you can move the hooks and metal posts around to make room.

Closets

Pegboard can also help with closet storage and organization. Instead of driving a nail in the closet wall to hang belts, ties, or purses, you can hang these items on hooks attached to pegboard. Nails can create snags or holes in fabric or leather, while with pegboards you have a choice of hooks and other attachments. Using any empty space on the closet walls helps maximize space on the cloths rods and makes finding small items easier.
