Organize Home Bathroom Linens

Shelves and hooks help keep bathroom linens under control.

Due to everyday use, bath towels, hand towels and washcloths often become an unruly mess without a solid system for storing them. Whether you have a dedicated closet or not, you can organize bathroom linens to make accessing them and putting them away less of a chore. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all of your bathroom linens from wherever you currently store them. If possible, launder all dirty towels and washcloths first so you have a complete picture of what needs organizing. Make space on a bed or table so you have room to sort and refold before you begin to organize linens.

2. Inspect your linens for holes, tears and stains. Separate linens that have seen better days and store them in a bin for use as rags. Snip off hanging threads from towels and washcloths you'll continue to use with scissors.

3. Dedicate a space to storing only bath linens you use every day. If you have a linen closet, readjust the shelves to more efficiently accommodate your towels, if possible. If shelves aren't adjustable, purchase shelf dividers, baskets or bins to avoid creating tall stacks that will ultimately become messy again. If you don't have a linen closet, find a free-standing shelf, armoire or tagere that provides enough space.

4. Fold or roll your bath linens. Fold into small enough squares or rectangles so linens won't hang over the edge of the shelf and place them with the smooth folded edge facing the front of the shelf. Build small sturdy stacks by size and type to maximize space and allow you to pull out a towel without the stack toppling over. If you have a large quantity of washcloths, placing them in a fabric box is a good option. Rolling bath linens rather than folding them is often the most efficient use of space.

5. Use higher shelves or the backs of shelves for beach towels or guest linens, which you don't use as often. Consider storing guest linens on a closet shelf or in a dresser drawer in the guest room if space is tight. Store everyday bath linens where they're most convenient.
