Install Rubbermaid Shelves

Empty wall space in a closet often represents little more than a wasted opportunity for storage. Rubbermaid offers a series of adjustable shelves that can help you get the most out of your closet, with nothing wasted. The shelves feature easy to adjust, customizable pieces that allow you to alter the shelf structure as needed in just a few minutes, and they can be installed or adjusted using nothing more than a few basic household tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Locate the studs on your wall using the stud finder at the height of the top of your desired shelf unit.

2. Hold the uprights against the wall vertically, and use the level to ensure they are perfectly vertical. Mark with the pencil through the upright's mounting holes.

3. Drill guide holes for the screw where you marked with the pencil.

4. Screw the uprights to the wall through the mounting holes and into the guide holes in the wall.

5. Mount the brackets at your desired heights. The brackets feature tabs that have teeth that extend up and down from the tab. Mount the bracket by sliding the upper tooth through the notch in the upright at the desired height, then using the mallet to gently tap down on the bracket to cause the bottom tooth to slide in.

6. Place the desired shelves on the brackets. Rubbermaid offers shelves for linens, shelves with narrower grating that support more weight, clothes rack shelves and shelves that feature one uninterrupted hanging rail beneath the shelf.

7. Screw the shelves in place through the screw holes in the bottom of the mounting brackets to secure the shelves in place.
