Adjust Bifold Closet Doors Due To New Carpet

Adjust Bifold Closet Doors Due to New Carpet

Your beautiful new carpet makes the bedroom look great, but the bi-fold closet door now rubs the carpeting and needs to be adjusted. No need to worry. A simple procedure will have that door set properly and functioning again. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Move the bi-fold doors to the fully closed position.

2. Mark the approximate center line of the bottom pivot pin on the floor bracket to record its position.

3. Slide the long arm of a pry bar under the door being adjusted and raise the pry bar up to lift the door slightly and free the bottom pivot screw from the floor bracket.

4. Turn the bottom pivot screw counterclockwise to raise the door to the necessary height. Some types of bottom pivot screws have a hex head nut that must be turned to adjust the pivot screw, and a small pair of pliers can be used to turn the adjustment nut on this type of pivot. Raise the door so that it clears the surface of the carpet by a minimum of ¼-inch.

5. Lower the door to allow the bottom pivot screw to rest on the floor bracket at the position marked in Step 2.

6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for the other bi-fold door in a double-door configuration, making certain that both doors are flush on the top and bottom after the adjustments have been made.
