Typically, the track that supports a wire closet shelf is secured into the drywall with anchors or into the stud behind the drywall, but it can also be secured to wood supports with wood screws. Wire shelving comes in standard lengths up to 12 inches. Many retail stores will cut the shelf to size upon request, or you can cut it yourself using a hack saw or bolt cutter. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove all items, shelving and bars from the closet.
2. Drill pilot holes into the wood supports 4 to 6 inches apart with a Phillips screwdriver or electric drill.
3. Secure the hang track to the wood supports with wood screws every 4 to 6 inches.
4. Place a level over the hang track to verify that it is even. If it isn't level remove the hang track and redrill holes for the wood screws along an even horizontal line.
5. Slip the vertical brackets into the hang track at 4- to 6-inch intervals. Arrange the vertical brackets every 4 inches along the hang track to provide more support for the shelf; for less support, space them 6 inches apart. Make sure the brackets are no more than 4 inches from the end of the track.
6. Place the wire shelf on the vertical brackets, and snap it into place.
