Use A Pegboard For Organizing Tools

Organize and store tools on a pegboard.

A cluttered mess of tools in your garage or home can be dangerous, not to mention frustrating if you cannot find a tool when you need it. Many homeowners use a pegboard for organizing tools. You can install the pegboard along one wall of a room to allow for neat and tidy organization of your tools. Installation should not take too long to complete; organizing the tools, however, can be more of a chore if the items are in multiple locations around your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure your wall with a tape measure. Select an appropriate sized pegboard that fits on the wall. You may have to cut a larger pegboard to suit your needs or group several pegboards together.

2. Find the studs on the wall, and hang the pegboard using 3/4-inch screws and an electric drill.

3. Group similar items together so that you can easily locate and sort your tools.

4. Position pegs in the holes and hang like-items together. When possible, drill holes into the handles of objects such as hammers and paintbrushes. Work from top to bottom, left to right to maximize your space.

5. Install pegboard baskets for items that don't have handles, such as tape measures and levels.

6. Install pegboard bins for smaller items, such as nails and bolts.

7. Install pegboard shelving for larger items, such as sprays and cleaners, that are too heavy for a basket.

8. Outline the shapes of the tools on the pegboard with a black marker. Outlines will help you put items back in their proper places and let you know what tools are missing.
