Organize A Small Kid'S Bedroom With A Bunkbed

Choose a bunk bed with lots of storage.

A bunk bed can be an excellent choice for a small room, because the vertical design gives you extra storage space and additional options for organizing the room. Making the bunk bed the center of the room and building the rest of the space around it can help you son or daughter stay organized and make it easier for you to find lost items. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the bedroom and use those measurements to determine the best position for the bunk bed. Placing the bunk bed in the center of a square room gives you plenty of room to walk around, even in a small room. If the kid's bedroom has one long and one short side, placing the bunk bed in the corner of the long side makes the most of the space you have available.

2. Choose a bunk bed with as much storage space as you can find. Many bunk beds come with storage shelves under the mattress, as well as additional storage under the ladder stairs. The more you can store in the bunk bed itself, the less you will need to organize elsewhere in the small bedroom.

3. Build shelving and storage units into the walls of the room if possible. If not, use storage cubes and other modular storage solutions. Buying storage cubes and shelves in bright colors can encourage your child to pick up after herself.

4. Hang a coat hook from the side of the top bunk, opposite the ladder. This gives your child a convenient place to hang coats in the winter, reducing the likelihood that the coat will end up on the floor.

5. Set rules for how the room is to be organized, while allowing the child some freedom to choose where things should be kept. Monitor the condition of the room and require that the child put everything back in place after each use.
