Paint A Closet Door Frame

Painting the interior of your home is an easy way to increase its beautify and value. Paint and supplies are relatively inexpensive and the value they add is far greater than their cost. Painting closet framework and trim around is a great way to accent them and hide unwanted blemishes or surface damage. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the closet door from the frame by opening the door and unscrewing the hinges from the frame. Set the door aside.

2. Remove the lock strike plate from the door frame. This will be held in place by two or three screws.

3. Tape the perimeter of the wall around the door frame. Place 2-inch-wide painter's tape around the sides and top of the door frame. Repeat for the interior of the closet around the frame.

4. Place a drop cloth or sheet of plastic underneath the closet door frame. This will help to catch any drips or spatters while painting the frame.

5. Prime the door frame and allow it to dry. If the frame has been painted before, sand it down if you like, but this is completely optional since primer will suit just fine.

6. Apply paint with a 2- to 3-inch-wide flat brush. Start at the top of the door frame using horizontal strokes, then paint down the side of the frame with vertical strokes. Ensure that you paint the raised edge of the frame adjacent to the wall during this process. Repeat for the inside of the closet. Allow the first coat to dry for a few hours then apply a second coat. Ensure that any missed spots or blemishes are smoothly and evenly coated with paint.

7. Remove the tape while the paint is still wet, slowly, being careful not to rip off loose paint from the wall. Allow the paint to dry for 24 hours before you replace the door, lock strike plate and hinges.
