Design A Virtual Home Online

The Internet offers programs for designing a virtual home online.

Design software lets you lay out a home's foundation and create a virtual blueprint for its rooms and other spaces. There are many different design programs available to do this. The evolution of the Internet has made it possible for some programs to exist solely online. These tools allow you to construct a virtual home directly on a web page, with no additional software necessary. The features and styles of these programs vary, but all let you create a floor plan and some offer additional features, such as the design of a garden.

Instructions

1. Design a virtual home online using the Small Blue Printer website. This free service provides an online tool for creating a three-dimensional layout of a virtual home. You can interact with the design in a walk-through interface and use a traditional overhead view of the layout. When your design is completed, you can print it out. In the 3D view, you can navigate through the virtual home using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Change wall colors as well as the "sky" style used for the graphic background. A separate garden planner is also available if you wish to design this outdoor area in conjunction with the virtual home. A second application on the site allows you to construct more floor plan details in a two-dimensional interface. These allow the addition of furniture and common household appliances into the design.

2. Create a free account at Floor Planner and use the service to design a virtual home. Floor Planner's utility provides detailed two-dimensional and three-dimension views of your design. The interface uses a drag-and-drop style of interacting with the onscreen design. Individual elements of the floor plan are added with the mouse. The website is tailored to virtual home design for remodeling and re-arranging projects. The cost is free for personal use, while licensed accounts get more space for saving the work. The finished virtual homes can be printed or shared online, including the placement of images on an external website.

3. Build a house online using the Architect Studio 3D website. Two versions are available at this site depending on your needs and browser plug-ins. A two-dimensional interface for constructing floor plans uses the standard Flash plug-in, which is installed on most browsers. A more complex interface that allows three-dimensional walk-throughs is available if you first install the Shockwave plug-in. Both tools use a step-by-step system that is organized from the perspective of a client-oriented architect. The website aims to educate its users about the entire business of home design while also sharing insights and design styles inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright. Unlike other services, you select your mock virtual clients and location before building the virtual home.
