Shop For Jeans At A Thrift Store

Jeans from thrift stores can cost a fraction of what they sell for in department stores.

Jeans are an American fashion staple that are lightweight, durable, comfortable and stylish too. However, a good pair of jeans from a well-known designer or department store can cost more than $100, even on sale. Thrift stores like Goodwill or Plato's Closet can be excellent places to buy good jeans, if you know where and look for them. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Try to think of several styles of jeans that you want to buy. Some pairs like bell-bottoms and skinny leg jeans come in and out of style once in a while, so it may be best to avoid those. Styles like straight jean boot-cut, or slim fit are considered by many to be classics that are always in style. Focus on trying to find these jeans over other styles.

2. Go to your local thrift stores. Several good options include Goodwill, Salvation Army, and Plato's Closet. Goodwill and Salvation Army are both donation-only stores, and sell clothing at true thrift prices. Plato's Closet pays customers to donate clothes, and thus their clothes may be more expensive than other thrift stores.

3. Look at the jean selection for each store. Look at both the number of jeans out for sale and the general condition of the jeans for sale. If the store does not appear to have a good selection of jeans, it may not be worth the time spent to go through each pair looking for a good one. Thrift stores replace their inventory once every few weeks, so you can come back at a later date and try again.

4. Go through the jean rack carefully and pay special attention to the feel of the denim. Jeans that feel very thin and soft may not have much time left before they tear, especially if they look worn out and faded.

5. Narrow the possible selections of jeans to several that will fit you and look decent. Try them on in the changing room and see how they look both from the front and the back. Walk around the store in each pair to get a feel for them. If the jeans fit well, feel comfortable, and look good, buy them.
