Closet Design Ideas With Wire Racks

Add more storage to your closet with simple wire racks.

All it takes is a few busy weeks and your perfectly organized closet will start to look a little messy. Everyone has their own way of organizing the space, including using plastic storage boxes and storing their out of season clothing. Wire racks are another option for quick organizing because the racks come in different sizes and shapes and fit a variety of different spaces. With these racks, even if you don't have a lot of time at the end of the day, you still know where everything belongs. Does this Spark an idea?

Wall-to-Wall Racks

Create more storage space than you thought possible by arranging the wire racks from one wall in your closet to the other and then stacking the racks. Begin by placing the wire racks on the bottom level of your closet, just a few inches off the ground, for holding your shoes. Then add a shelf slightly higher for other foot related items, including socks and extra shoelaces or a shoe polishing kit. Arrange the racks at varying heights inside your closet, depending on the size of your clothing and the other items you store inside. You'll have much more room than you would when using a single hanging bar.

Sliding Drawers

Visit your local home improvement store and look for wire racks that fit together, with drawers in the middle. These work similar to the dresser in your bedroom, but the wire lets you easily see inside each drawer and know exactly what you have. You'll also find closet organizing kits, which include both hanging shelves and drawers. Look for drawers approximately the same width of your closet or pick a larger size if you have a walk-in closet. Use the lower drawers to store out of season clothing or items you rarely use, and place your day-to-day clothing in the top drawers.

Hanging Racks

Use wire hanging racks for storing smaller pieces of clothing and accessories. Kitchen stores sell hanging wire racks meant for holding stemware, but these also work for ties, jewelry and scarves. Hang these racks from the top of your closet, to use previously wasted space. Then, look for hanging baskets, which have hooks on the back for sliding over the top of a shelf. These baskets are open on the front, which may make it easier for you to find your favorite items. The smaller size is appropriate for storing socks, underwear or children's clothing.
