DIY Closet Organization
In troubled financial times, did you know you can organize your closet to save money? According to Epoch Times, when you organize your closet so that you know what is in it, you can avoid buying duplicate items and clothing that does not coordinate with your existing wardrobe. Organizing your closet doesn't take the help of a professional organizer. You can do it yourself with just a little time. Does this Spark an idea?
Discard Old Clothing
Decluttering your closet is as simple as getting rid of things that you no longer wear. To begin with, go through your closet and evaluate each piece of clothing. If it hasn't been worn in a year, it should be discarded. Box up all old pieces of clothing and donate them to a charity for a tax write-off, or sell stylish pieces in a garage sale or online auction for extra spending cash.
Develop a System
A system simply means that you organize your clothing by certain categories. You may choose to move all your skirts into one spot and men's sport coats in another, or you may choose to color code your clothing. Having your clothing organized in a system helps you determine which pieces are worn most, and whether you have too many of one type of clothing article or two few of another. Organizing clothing by height, with all short hanging things in one area and long in another is a way to maximize the space in your closet. You can frequently hang short-hanging clothing over items that are stored on the floor of the closet such as a shoe tree or a set of shelves.
Use Organization Tools
Some closets can be neatened simply by adding space for things such as shoes and T-shirts with the use of organization tools such as shoe organizers and shelves. Some people hang T-shirts, belts and scarves along with their other clothing to prevent wrinkles. However, those items can be stored just as easily on a shelf. Other clutter problems can occur when shoes are piled on the floor of the closet. Shoe trees can help tame this clutter.
Store Off-Season Clothing
One way to tame your closet is to remove items that won't see any wear for six months. This means boxing up sweaters in the summer, and packing away summer dresses during winter months. By rotating your wardrobe, you not only cut down on the number of garments hanging in your closet, but you also avoid having these garments drift to the back of the closet where they are often forgotten.
