Decorate A Free Standing Clothes Hanger

Whether you consider yourself a creative, crafty type or simply love letting no part of your home go undecorated, you can find inspiration and new decorating possibilities by repurposing objects around your home. With just a few supplies, you can turn average household items such as a freestanding clothes hanger into a unique way to display your ornaments for the holidays or a special way to show off your family tree.

Instructions

Holiday Ornament Tree

1. Take your freestanding clothes hanger outside and open it, setting it on the ground or grass.

2. Spray paint the hanger (use spray paint appropriate for the material it is made out of, such as plastic or wood), and let it dry.

3. Turn it over and spray paint the undersides and any other areas that weren't reached the first time, and let it dry.

4. Run a line of glue up one side of the ornament tree, then press a string of tinsel onto the glue, holding one end of the tinsel garland in place until it is firmly secured, then pressing your way up the side of the clothes hanger. Repeat on the other side.

5. Dab dots of glue along the tinsel and add bunches of pine needles, pressing them into the glue until they stick. Wipe away any excess glue. Let dry.

6. Bring the clothes hanger inside and hook ornaments onto the different hangers to display them for the holiday season.

Family Tree

7. Turn your freestanding clothes hanger into a colorful family tree. Wrap the legs of the hanger with colored duct tape; choose a color that matches the theme of the room the family tree will be displayed in. Wrap the top bar and bottom bars in the same or a coordinating color tape.

8. Cut family photos to the size of a variety of small picture frames; consider doing all black and white pictures for an antique look.

9. Uncurl a length of ribbon that would hang about two feet from the top bar of the clothing hanger. Tie the ribbon to the hook on the back of the picture frame (if there is no place to tie the ribbon, glue it to the back of the frame). Tie the other end of the ribbon to the top bar of the clothing hanger.

10. Cut another piece of ribbon, this one slightly shorter than the other (to allow frames to sway back and forth without bumping into each other) and tie it to the frame, then tie it to the top of the clothing hanger.

11. Hang all the photo frames, alternating their lengths, then snip off any excess ribbon length from the knots on the top bar of the clothes hanger.
