Types Of Recessed Shelving For A Bedroom

Libraries often utilize recessed shevling.

Recessed shelving is a stable, functional method of storing items in any part of the home, especially the bedroom. Bedrooms are a strong choice for this type of shelving as it can be used for both display and practical purposes. Recessed shelving is especially useful for smaller spaces as the storage is within the wall, not in the room, thereby providing more space overall. This type of shelving can hold the same or more weight as conventional shelving. Does this Spark an idea?

Over the Bed

The most common application for recessed shelving in a bedroom is over the bed. The placement of shelving in this spot can eliminate the need for bedside tables. Books, reading glasses, decanters and other bedside items can easily be stored on this type of shelving. The items are easily reachable and are less likely to be knocked over as they are safely above the bed. This type of shelving is ideal for smaller spaces where the placement of furniture is limited.

Recessed Bookcases

There are many bedrooms that feature bookcases for storing reading materials and other documents. Bookcases are usually quite large, so recessed versions of these pieces can be practical in both space conservation and simplicity. Smaller bedrooms will look less cluttered if recessed shelving is used instead of large bookcases. The storage area is the same, but the space used is much less as it does not take up any of the room's square footage.

Decorative Shelving

Flowers, collectibles and other decorative items are often part of bedroom decor. These accents may be small, but they can still take up valuable space if the room is on the smaller side. Recessed shelving, whether small or large, can solve this problem and still allow the room these decorative items. Framed art or shadow boxes are common decor items for bedrooms. Recessed shelving can provide the same effect by creating attractive spaces where small vases of flowers or keepsake items can be displayed.

Children's Bedroom Shelving

Children's bedrooms require a large amount of shelving to accommodate toys, clothing, books and other necessities. Recessed shelving can be installed to alleviate the need for storage in a simple way that will save space. For example, recessed shelving can be placed along one whole wall for a wide variety of cubby holes in different sizes and shapes for all your child's storage needs.
