Turn A Child'S Closet Into A Fun Area

Transform your child's closet into a place fit for play.

Closets are often overlooked as anything more than a storage area. Many parents, eager to stow away their children's clothing and other odds and ends, don't see the closet as a possible play area; however, with a little creativity, you can turn this space into much more than a closet. Instead of using this space for its intended purpose, consider transforming it into an fun area that can provide an exciting adventure for your child. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create a colorful color scheme. If you plan to use this area as a fun space, color can help transform it. Use bold primary hues or shades of your child's favorite color to make this space more aesthetically pleasing. Consider the back wall as an accent wall, if you desire, and make that a different color than the rest of the walls.

2. Deck the walls with uncommon accents. Make the normally mundane space whimsical by placing decorative accents on the walls. Add a wall-sized mural of outer space to make the area seem like the depths of the Milky Way Galaxy. If your child is a fan of sports, consider placing adhesive sports figures on the walls, making it look like a locker room, not a storage space.

3. Create a reading cave. Encourage literacy in your little one by crafting a cozy space for reading. Place a comfy seat or cushion in a corner, and mount a desk lamp on the wall, ensuring that your young reader has everything that she needs to enjoy her favorite books from the comfort of her closet space.

4. Dedicate a section to dress up. Your closet is likely already outfitted with clothing rods, making it the perfect dress-up space. Dedicate one of these clothing rods to holding her favorite dress-up garments, and place a large mirror on the wall to make the space dress-up ready.

5. Craft a play space. Transform your closet into a home all your child's own by filling it with a play toy oven, a cradle for her baby dolls or a chair to serve as a seating space, allowing her to use the closet as a place for playing house with friends. Add an area rug to define the space and make it cozy.
