Design An Office Storage Closet

Wrangling items in a cluttered office closet is no small feat--it often takes hours to corral all those built-up items, file folders and office supplies. That's why office closet organization is all about finding a place for each type of item and throwing out what is no longer needed. With that in mind, you can begin to design a closet with all the needed elements and shelving, storage boxes and file holders. Seek inspiration from design magazines online or in your local library. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Survey your office closet situation. Remove all items from your closet and organize them into piles according to type. Throw away or give away any items you have not used in the past year and do not honestly think you will use in the future.

2. Vacuum your closet thoroughly. Remove shelving and wipe down or vacuum.

3. Paint the walls of your closet a bright, new paint color, if desired. Tape off any edging or moulding using painter's tape, ensuring you press down on the tape to make a tight seal. Stir your paint and use a bristle brush to paint the walls. Allow the walls to dry for 48 hours before replacing the shelving.

4. Purchase additional shelving units to install in your closet, if needed.

5. Line shelves with decorative contact paper to make an attractive and cohesive shelving unit. Press the paper down firmly while rolling it onto the shelving and smooth out creases along the way.

6. Purchase storage containers for all remaining office supplies and items. Purchase file cabinets to fit in your closet and corral any loose file folders you may need to store there. Place items in the containers and line them up on the shelves in your closet.

7. Label all containers in your office closet using a permanent marker and self-adhesive labels.
