Make Closets & Drawers Smell Good

Closets and drawers are useful for storing your clothes and shoes but can pick up a strange storage odor caused by moisture, cigarette smoke or lack of air circulation. A few simple ideas can prevent this smell from reoccurring and keep your closet and drawers smelling fresh. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all apparel and items from your closet and drawers. Wash your clothing, place silica packets in shoes, which you store in shoe boxes, and air out all items.

2. Add 1/2 c. bleach to a bucket of warm water. Clean your closet walls, shelves and dresser using the bleach mix and a cloth to remove mildew and odors. Apply only a damp application to the walls. Close the closet door and dresser drawers and do not open for 12 hours.

3. Add 1/2 c. of white vinegar to a 1-gallon bucket of warm water and dip a cloth in the mixture. Use the cloth to wipe the dresser drawers and closet walls. Allow the closets and dresser drawers to dry for two to three hours. White vinegar deodorizes and neutralizes the bleach scent, leaving your closet and drawers odorless.

4. Place two or three scented drawer liners on the bottom of each dresser drawer to keep the dresser drawers smelling fresh. Replace them every two to three weeks -- or once the scent has worn away.

5. Pour essential oil in a small vase and place it on a closet shelf. Replace oil every week or two when the smell diffuses.

6. Place your apparel and items back into your closet and drawers.
