Diy Garage Storage Ideas

Storing tools and other garage items may take a weekend or even two, but the end result will be very gratifying. Set a realistic goal and be determined to finish this task. Tidying up garage clutter can seem like a huge task, but having all your tools and items organized will give you a sense of achievement. Does this Spark an idea?

Hooks

An inexpensive way to start organizing is with hooks. Hooks are highly effective for the price. Place hooks up high for items that are only used during certain seasons. Snow shovels, racks and brooms are easy to reach and are not needed often. Give each hook enough space to accommodate the tool that will be placed there, this will avoid aggravation when you need to access that particular item. Some tools may require two hooks so that the tool can be draped and not actually hooked. Other tools may require a hole drilled into the handle and attaching a leather strap to latch over the hook. Ladder hooks can be purchased in small and large sizes and have a straight line, rather than a hook. Mount these high on the wall and use them to hold bicycles as well as ladders and other large items.

Plastic Bins

Many miscellaneous items cannot be displayed, but can be grouped into bins and labeled. Group home improvements items, such as weather stripping, caulking materials and painting supplies and store them in bins. You can store these seldom-used items on the top of a shelf. Store seasonal decorations in labeled plastic bins. Lights and paper will be safe from inquisitive animals that might make their way inside the garage.

Cabinets

Purchase a locking cabinet, if safety is an issue. Large tools can be stored behind a locked door and out of sight, giving an uncluttered look to the garage. Grinders and drills that are bulky and heavy can have their own space and attachments can safely sit close by.

Odds and Ends

Start saving plastic food containers for the perfect storage of nails, nuts and bolts. A pant hanger that allows you to detach the metal rod that holds the trousers makes an ideal hanger for tape, attach the tape and hang on a hook for convenience. A strip of magnetic tape can hold drill bits and other small objects. Attach the strip to a board and mount to the wall. Peg boards are still a favorite for hanging frequently used tools. The pegs can be rearranged to fit hammers, small saws and screwdrivers.
