Keeping clothes folded makes for an organized closet.
Closets serve as wonderful storage units, especially if they are large -- but small closets in various parts of the home can help keep the area organized as well. If your closet is often cluttered, finding a way to keep its contents orderly may be easier than you think. Does this Spark an idea?
Size
Let the size of the closet help you determine what should be stored there. For instance, if you have a small closet in the hallway, this may be best for storing home decor items that aren't too large, like floor runners or Christmas ornaments. A spacious closet in the attic or garage may be the best place to store clothes when they're not in season, or large home appliances.
Function
Assign a function to each closet in your home to stay organized and reduce the chances of losing important items. For instance, your linen closet should only house your towels, washcloths, and bed sheets -- placing shoes or coats there may make for too much clutter. Or, if your child has a small closet in her bedroom, use the space for storing her clothes and shoes, and a separate closet in the home for games and toys.
Features
It may be a good idea to add a few features to your closets to make the most of the space and keep the area neat. For instance, an extra wall shelf in your bedroom closet can serve as the 'accessories area', and adding some hooks to the door of the coat closet will allow you to store more jackets there when guests visit.
