Keep Bugs Out Of A Storage Closet

A bug infestation in a storage closet may cause irreparable damage to stored items. Roaches, ants, silverfish, and moths are among the common bugs you may find in your closet if you do not take precautions against them. Bugs are attracted to areas that provide a food source, moisture, and protection from the elements and predators. Storage closets may provide all these things, if you don't guard against them. Left unchecked, bugs will breed and may become a tremendous problem. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Dust closet shelves weekly to prevent a buildup, which may provide sustenance to insects. If spills have occurred, immediately wipe them up with a damp sponge and a general-purpose cleaning spray.

2. Sweep the floor of a storage closet weekly. Mop the floor once a month, or when something has spilled onto the floor.

3. If any food items are stored in the closet, place them in sealed containers made of hard plastic, metal, glass, or ceramic so insects cannot infiltrate the food.

4. Clean all fabric items, such as clothing, towels, and rugs, before storing them in the closet. Dirty fabrics will attract bugs. Place fabric items in sealed containers with a moth repellent -- you can purchase moth repellents at many retailers that sell home goods.

5. Place sticky traps in corners of the closet, where insects are likely to walk. Check the traps weekly, and replace them when the surface is covered with insects.
