For many women it is an all too familiar problem; you have a closet full of clothes, many of them still bearing their tags, yet you do not have a thing to wear. If you have suffered from this affliction more than once, then you probably are in need of a serious wardrobe overhaul. Far too many people get into the bad habit of just buying different pieces of clothing on a whim simply because the item is on sale. You need a plan in order to develop a wardrobe.
Instructions
1. Clean out your closet. The first step to building a winning wardrobe is to get rid of all the pieces that are currently not working for you. You need to do this not only to make room for your new clothes, but more importantly to discover which items you desperately need. Any pieces that are damaged or don’t fit need to go, as well as anything you haven’t worn in over six months.
2. Take your closet’s inventory. You need to make a list of the pieces you have that are working for you. Once you have this list you will be able to comprise another list of things you still need. You need to ensure you have a great pair of jeans and a simple black dress, as well as a couple of other staples, such as khakis and a white blouse. These items are extremely versatile, so you can build from them.
3. Stay neutral. You will definitely want the majority of your clothing to be in basic colors, such as black and white, as well as navy and brown. These colors tend to coordinate with many other colors offering you more versatility. You will also want to have far less prints than solid-colored pieces in your wardrobe.
4. Add personality with accessories. You want a wardrobe that is functional, but you don’t want to be boring either. You can add tons of trendy style to any outfit with well chosen belts and jewelry, as well as shoes and purses.
5. Start shopping regularly. This is deceptively obvious. You need to attack shopping with a purpose. You do not want to simply browse around and then give in to impulses. You need to actively look for the right pieces for your wardrobe. This is where your list comes in handy. Avoid buying anything on the spur of the moment or just because it is on clearance.
