Laundry Room Storage Ideas
Having adequate space for storage in the laundry room is imperative for keeping the room neat and tidy. Shelves or cabinets make even the smallest laundry rooms more organized and easier to work in; unnecessary clutter and lack of storage gives the room a dirty look. Shelves and Cabinets
Install shelves near the dryer or washer to keep detergent, dryer sheets and other washing materials within easy reach. If the room is large, consider installing cabinets. Store washing, sewing and other laundry-related items such as scrubbers, sponges and stain removers in the cabinets and on the shelves. If possible, install adjustable shelves and cabinets so that they can be adapted for the storage needs of the laundry room.
Appliance Storage
Some washer and dryers now come with storage shelves underneath the machinery. Washing materials can be stored underneath the machines, leaving the shelves available for storing other items. For machines that do not come with storage, a makeshift one can be created by propping the machine securely on risers and sliding drawers made to fit the space underneath.
Ironing Board Installation
Rather than finding a storage spot for the ironing board, consider installing a wall-attached ironing board. It can be pulled down when needed and is flush to the wall when put away. Having this type of ironing board frees up storage space and provides more space to move around the laundry room.
Individual Hampers
Rather than having one hamper for all the dirty clothes or letting the dirty clothes pile up on the floor, have color-coded hampers for each person in the house. This keeps everyone's clothes organized and keeps the dirty clothes from piling up quickly.
Other Storage Ideas
Small garage racks can be attached to the wall of the laundry room for added hanging storage. A small hanging basket can also be attached to the clothesline or the racks to keep clothespins in one spot.
