Save money by making your own CD storage system.
Though CDs are much more compact than their predecessors, cassette tapes, they still take up space. Also, if they are left laying around they are susceptible to being broken or severely scratched, leaving them inoperable. If you are a music lover or you have a large collection of CDs, you may find yourself looking for adequate storage. Though there are several different types of commercial racks and holders available, there are also a few things you can do yourself to save money or just save space. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
In the Car
1. Pull the left side of your passenger visor out of the clip that it is snapped into.
2. Stretch 10 to 15 rubber bands around the visor. Stretch them so the rubber bands run up and down. Space them evenly
3. Tuck CDs under the rubber bands for storage. The rubber bands will hold the CDs in place and allow you to see and access them without having to struggle with CD binders while driving.
At Home
4. Measure the width, length and depth of a shoe box with a tape measure.
5. Cut a sheet of contact paper to fit the size of your box with an extra inch on all sides for folding over. Cut out the corners so the sides will fold up without extra contact paper in the way.
6. Measure the lid of the shoe box with an extra 1/2 inch on all sides. Cut out the corners of excess contact paper.
7. Flip the box open-side down and smooth the larger sheet of contact paper over it. Smooth it over the bottom and sides. Flip the box back over and fold the extra inch on each side over the lip of the box.
8. Smooth the smaller sheet of contact paper over the lid of the box and the sides of the lid. Flip it over and fold the extra 1/2 inch on each side over the lip of the lid.
9. Place your CDs into the box for decorative and organized storage.
In the Office
10. Hang a large cork board on the wall of your office with a drill and drywall screws.
11. Insert pushpins 3 inches apart over the entire board.
12. Hang your CDs over the pushpins to easily access what you need and see what you have.
