Give lots of thought to the headboard wall in any bedroom.
Any bedroom lives larger with a good storage system and a clean design. Give a lot of thought to each room, and determine make that bedroom work for the individual or couple sleeping there. For example, a tiny bedroom with a large window will make the space seem bigger. Start with the ideal bedroom in your planning, and scale back to fit the space and budget. Vault the Ceiling
Raise the ceiling in a master bedroom if possible. Any master bedroom with a vaulted or tray ceiling usually adds value to a home. If the ceiling height is a standard 8 feet, raise the ceiling if the attic area will accommodate this. Add a deck to the master bedroom area that opens to a side yard or backyard too. In case of fire, a deck can be the best escape route for the entire family.
Design a Sitting Room
Create bedrooms with a tiny bit of living space. Design a wall for the headboard area as the starting point. Typically, the wall with the headboard will be the focal point of the room. Even if space is limited, create a small sitting area somewhere in the room. Place a very small sofa on the wall opposite the foot of the bed, for example. Without sitting space, the bed itself will become the inconvenient sitting space.
Plan Storage for Tidiness
Design a good layout with storage. Upon entering a bedroom, however small, you want the space to look neat and uncluttered. Build a wall of storage at one end of the bedroom from floor to ceiling. Even if this wall is just 12 to 18 inches deep, you can store toys, books and miscellaneous items. Design a closet space with a door that is not on the same wall as the headboard wall if possible.
Add Light to the Room
Include a large window for light and a fire escape. Avoid building a tiny window, especially in a child's bedroom. A bay window with a seating area can work well on the first floor. This kind of light coming in will make the bedroom space good for doing computer work or homework, so the bedroom doubles as a good work area. Designing bedroom spaces with a small media cabinet, desk area and window space for enjoying a yard view will make family members want to spend time there.
Include a Bathroom
Build every bedroom with a small bathroom if possible. Even installing just a half-bath for every adult and child bedroom improves the space. Sometimes extra room for a bathroom can be borrowed from a nearby closet in an adjoining room or taken from a hallway. Two children's rooms can have an adjoining bathroom or common bath in an outside hallway.
