Build A Doll Clothes Closet

A doll clothes closet can help keep your little girl's room tidy or even store your own collection of doll clothes. If you are tired of losing socks, shoes and accessories, a wardrobe can solve this problem. You can build a doll wardrobe easily with only basic materials and add personal touches to make it your own. While many purchased doll wardrobes are quite lightweight, this doll closet is sturdy enough to stand up to years of play and adventures.

Instructions

1. Cut two pieces of birch plywood 10 1/2 inches by 16 inches. Cut two bottom side panels 4 inches by 16 inches and two top side panels 2 inches by 16 inches. You will need three 4 inch by 10 inch panels and two 2 inch by 10 inch panels.

2. Use wood glue to build a simple box with two 4 inch by 16 inch sides and two 4 inch by 10 inch sides. Use the other 4 inch by 10 inch piece to create a shelf in the box, approximately 4 inches from one end. Use clamps to hold the box together as the glue dries. Glue one of the 10 1/2 by 16 inch pieces onto the back of the box.

3. Build a second shallower box out of the two 2 inch by 16 inch and two 2 inch by 10 inch boards, again using glue to secure all joints. Glue the other 10 1/2 by 16 inch piece into place on the back of the second box.

4. Sand lightly and then paint the outsides of your doll clothes closet. This is a great opportunity to personalize your doll wardrobe. You can also add metal or wood trims, decals or other design elements. Sand and paint the interior or use spray adhesive to attach scrapbooking paper to the inside of your doll closet.

5. Attach the two halves of your doll clothes closet together using hinges. Mark the spacing with pencil to make sure they are evenly spaced and secure them using a drill and short wood screws. Attach a clasp to the front of your doll wardrobe with screws.

6. Screw two or three cup hooks into the top of the deeper box, approximately 3 inches from the back panel. Cut a 1/4-inch dowel rod to 9 1/2 inches long and slide it into the cup hooks. Hang doll clothes in your doll clothes closet and use the shelf for shoes and accessories.
