Organize Your Entryway

The entryway to a home is a magnet for clutter--shoes, coats, bags, junk mail--the list just goes on and on. If you're tired of walking through the door and facing a disaster zone, it's time to get organized. Here's everything you need to know to get your entryway organized once and for all: Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Organize Your Entryway

1. Survey the entryway for items that just don't belong, and return them to their proper spots.

2. Then, take a look at what remains, and try to group like items together--a pile of shoes, a pile of coats, a pile of hats and so on.

3. Now, it's time to evaluate your piles. Do you need to keep five pairs of shoes at the door? How about coats? Tote bags? Gloves? Hats? Decide how many of each item needs to stay. Then, store the extras elsewhere.

4. With all clutter removed, you can now begin to organize what remains. If you don't have a closet in your entryway, you'll need to create storage space for all of your items. The bare essentials? A coat rack, a shoe rack and a storage bench. Head to the store to pick out what you'll need. Then, find a spot in your entryway to set them up.

5. The finished line is in sight! Hang up all of your coats, place shoes on their racks, stow tote bags, umbrellas, hats and gloves inside the storage bench--everything needs to find a home.

6. Add a basket for stashing the mail, and your entryway makeover is complete!
