Install Rubbermaid Wire Shelving

Install Rubbermaid Wire Shelving

Rubbermaid wire shelving lets you install customizable shelves wherever you need them. The shelving features a long hang bar that supports vertical beams, and these beams hold the supports where the shelves themselves are attached. The simplicity of the design means that anyone with a drill can install the shelves in about an hour, and the shelves can be customized to create whatever sized shelving you require. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use the stud finder to locate the studs in the wall where you are going to install the shelving. Mark the start and end of the studs by drawing a small line with your pencil at the height that you plan on installing the Rubbermaid shelving system.

2. Hold the top rail against the wall so that the holes on the far left part of the rail are aligned with the exact center of a stud. Use your level to ensure that the rail is straight. Then use your pencil to make a mark where the top and bottom holes on the rail are, whenever they intersect a stud. Finally go back and mark just the top holes, every 8 inches between the studs.

3. Drill 1/8-inch pilot holes in the marks on the studs. Drill 3/8-inch holes into the marks between the studs. Insert wall anchors into all of the 3/8-inch holes, then insert the black wall anchor key into the anchors to engage them.

4. Place the top rail back in place and screw it in using the screws provided with the kit. One screw should go into each pilot hole.

5. Place the top rail cover over the top of the rail, then press it down until it snaps into place.

6. Place the gripper tops over the ends of the upright rails. Tighten the grippers in place using the provided allen key. Then put the uprights onto the top rail. Space them so that there is 16 inches between each upright.

7. Mark the wall through the bottom holes of the uprights. Move the upright slightly and drill 1/8-inch pilot holes if the hole is over a stud, or 3/8-inch holes if it is not. Install wall anchors into 3/8-inch holes. Place the uprights back in place, and secure them with screws.

8. Insert the top of the shelf brackets into the uprights, holding the brackets at an angle, then lowering them into place. Brackets much be installed on every upright at the exact same height. You can install as many rows of brackets as you need.

9. Place the wire on the back of the shelving into the slot at the back of the brackets. You will either push down on the shelf to lock it into place, or slide a clip on the bracket to lock the shelf into place, depending on your model of shelving. Lower the front of the shelving to complete the installation.
