Clean Vinyl Wire Shelves

Many pantries have wire shelving.

Vinyl-coated wire shelves are standard in many new homes. They are lightweight and easy to install, but they have numerous crevices that are difficult to clean. Under most conditions, closet shelves only need to be cleaned once a year. Pantry shelves on which sticky items are stored will need more frequent cleaning. When vinyl shelves are coated with greasy or sugary substances, use a cleaning solution that will cut through the gunk. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a damp microfiber cleaning cloth for routine dusting. Massage the individual wires with the cloth to reach into the small crevices.

2. Mix 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 tsp. dish soap into half a bucket of warm water. Soak the microfiber cloth in the cleaning solution and wring it out well. Use this cloth on very dirty shelves. Rinse the cloth in the solution and wring it out frequently.

3. Use a toothbrush dipped in the cleaning solution to scrub any remaining dirty spots. Allow the shelves to air dry completely or dry them with a soft cloth before placing items back on them.
