Solutions For A Shallow Closet

Organizing a small, shallow closet poses a challenge even for the most organized.

Keeping a regular size closet organized on a consistent basis poses a challenge to many people. Keeping a shallow closet organized requires you to be inventive and sometimes to redesign the traditional way that you use a closet as some shallow closets are too small to hang standard size hangers straightly. Does this Spark an idea?

Shelf Space

Assess your wardrobe to get a sense of how many of your clothes need to hang off hangers and how many of them you can just as easily fold and store on shelves. Set aside the clothes that you can fold on shelves, and put up enough shelves to accommodate all these clothes. Install the shelves slightly higher so that you still have the main space of the closet free for other items. Get a step stool so that reaching these higher shelves doesn't feel like an impossible chore.

Shorter Rods

Truly adapting to your shallow closet means adopting certain nontraditional ways of hanging your clothes. Instead of having one long closet rod that attaches horizontally across the right and left sides of the closet, have several shorter rods attached to the front and back of the closet, which will allow you to hang hangers off the rod so that they're straight and let you hang some of your dresses, suits and other items that you absolutely cannot fold.

Hooks

Install hooks against the walls of your remaining free spots of closet space. Hooks offer you a great deal when it comes to organization; they offer an ease of organizing and putting things away and are suitable for numerous articles of clothes. For example, designate hooks in your closet for belts, handbags, ties, accessories, scarves, jackets, pants and so forth. Don't forget to use the walls of the closet that face away from you to hang hooks as well. The shallow walls of your closet don't limit you at all when it comes to hooks, and you can install hooks in under a couple minutes.
