Build An Indoor Grow Room

You can still sport a green thumb even in the winter. With an indoor grow room you will be able to cultivate flowers, herbs or vegetables. You can also start your seeds or grafts here. Because you will control the environment of your indoor grow room, you will be able to enjoy your favorite plants all year round. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Build an Indoor Grow Room

1. Decide which room in your home will be used as the grow room. This room can be a small room or closet, or a sectioned off area of your basement. The room does need a power source for grow lights, pumps and timers.

2. Remove any carpeting. Ideally, the floor should be tile, vinyl or concrete. This will prevent mildew and mold growth from any potential water leakage.

3. Seal off windows with black plastic. Hang a section of black plastic in front of the door on the inside of the room as well. It should hang like a curtain to allow access, but prevent other light from entering the room.

4. Install the grow light system. This system should allow for physically raising and lowering the grow lights. Use chains or cables to ensure stability and durability. Do not use any flammable materials.

5. Add fans for circulation. These should be low-power fans, such as small table models. For small spaces like a closet one small fan should be sufficient.

6. Place the grow tables beneath the lights. Your tables should include a drainage system and, if possible, a system to recycle excess water.

7. Use a timer for any pumps that will circulate water, such as those used in hydroponics systems. If you are using an irrigation or drip system, go with a timer to ensure even watering.

8. Use a timer for your lighting system as well. Your lighting needs to mimic a day/night cycle.
