Edit The Scoring On Espn Fantasy Basketball

Fantasy players will dunk for you.

Professional sports occupy an enormous amount of time and attention in America. Many people, both male and female, follow their favorite team with great fervor. Magazines and entire television channels dedicated to professional sports allows fans to constantly stay abreast of news. One area of sport culture benefiting from the growth of the Internet is fantasy sports. Once an activity enjoyed only by sports fans obsessed with statistics, fantasy leagues continue growing in popularity as score tabulation is handled by computers. While fantasy baseball and football remain the most popular, fantasy basketball has grown as fans seek ways to occupy their winter. The statistics of each player on a fantasy team are tracked and calculated to determine results. In ESPN fantasy basketball, you can edit scoring rules during league creation to completely customize the experience.

Instructions

1. Direct your Internet browser to the ESPN website.

2. Locate the menu bar labeled "my ESPN" near the top of the page. Hover your mouse over "Fantasy & Games" toward the far right of the menu bar. A drop-down menu will appear. On the far left, beneath the heading "Sections," click on "Basketball."

3. Select "Create or Join League" on the secondary menu under the "my ESPN" menu near the top of the Fantasy Basketball page.

4. Click on "Create a League" near the middle of the page. In order to edit scoring options you must be the league manager.

5. Choose wisely to bring home the championship.

Choose which type of league will be created. Scoring options are only editable in "League Manager" or "ESPN Custom" leagues. If you want a private, invitation-only league where you retain control over many functions throughout the season, select "Create League Manger." To create a public league that anyone can join, select "Create ESPN Custom." In a custom league, scoring may only be edited during league creation.

6. Enter your member name and password to continue. If already logged in, this screen will not appear.

7. Enter a name for the league. League settings, such as the number of teams, scoring type, draft type and date, may be modified on this screen. Check settings, as they may not be changed afterward. Click on "Create League" below the "Draft Date" option.

8. Click on "Scoring" to change the scoring rules for the league. The new screen will open, stating "You're Almost Done!" toward the top. Just below these words is a line of tabs. Using these tabs, every setting of the league being created may be modified. "Scoring" is the fourth tab from the left.

9. Click on the red "Edit Scoring Settings" button that appears beneath the tabs.

10. Select the statistics that will be measured in the league by checking the box to the left of the stat. The background of each statistic will turn gray if it is selected. A white background means that statistic will not be used in the league.

11. You can change each statistic's importance.

Look to the right of the statistic names. If head-to-head scoring was selected during league creation, a box with a number will appear. Changing a number will affect how important a stat is when calculating scores. A negative number means that statistic counts against a team's score. A positive number counts in the team's favor. Raising the value of any statistic higher than 1 or lower than -1 will increase its importance. For example, if "Points" has a value of 1 and "Rebounds" a value of 2, the value of each rebound is double that of each point. Modify these settings carefully.

12. Click on "Submit Scoring Settings" at the top or bottom of the list when finished modifying the scoring rules. This will save the changes.

13. Change any other settings using the tabs. These settings may not be modified later unless you selected "League Manager" initially. When finished, click on the red "Create Your League!" button in the upper-right corner of the page.

14. Read the pop-up window that appears if you are creating an ESPN Custom League. This reminds you that settings may not be changed later. Select "Cancel" if there are still changes to be made. Select "Create League Now!" to complete the process.
