Ideas On Organizing A Small House

Only have necessary items out for use to save space.

Space and storage can become an issue in a small house if you have many possessions or large storage units. You must fully utilize existing storage space and use lighter colors to make smaller rooms look larger. You also need to keep things organized and choose smaller furniture, so the house does not look cluttered. Does this Spark an idea?

Use All Closets

Use all available closet space to store jackets, shoes, seasonal items, vacuums, cleaning supplies, sports equipment and other items that may usually be left out in the hallway or in other rooms.

Built-In Storage

Purchase a coffee table or nightstands that feature additional storage space. Use these pieces to store magazines, unused candles, DVD films, games, remote controls and blankets used during the colder winter months. Storing these smaller items will make rooms less cluttered and look more organized.

Proper Lighting

Avoid using larger lighting accessories, such as chandeliers and hanging lamps. Use taller floor lamps and purchase them in lighter colors, such as cream or white. Taller lamps take up less space in a room than a large ceiling lamp or a chandelier. Put the taller lamps behind furniture or in corners to make more space in the room.

Corner Units

Install corner shelving units to hold decorations or items you want to leave out in the room, such as books or plants. If you want to have a desk in your house as well, opt for a corner unit as it takes up less space than a rectangular desk. A corner desk can also help you organize your house, as the items on the desk will be limited to the triangular desk space. The rest of the items should be tucked away until needed.

Smaller Furniture

A small house can look unorganized and cluttered when large furniture is used in small spaces. Opt for smaller furniture, such as a love seat and a single chair, instead of a large three-person couch and a love seat. Add a single coffee table and a lamp to give the room an organized feel in comparison to a cluttered corner couch.
