Diy Closet Renovation

An ordered closet can make getting ready for work much easier.

Closets can be a chaotic eyesore or an area of peace and tranquility, depending on your organizational skills and the amount of clothes you have. If your closet is splitting at the seams and in need of a makeover, a thorough renovation can provide a new lease on life for your storage space. Renovation usually doesn't require professional help and can be completed with some basic DIY skills and a keen eye for organization. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Dispose of any old items of clothing or shoes that you no longer wear. This can help free up valuable closet space and make your closet look a whole lot neater. Clothes that haven't been worn for a year or so are unlikely to enjoy much screen time again, so bite the bullet and put them in the garbage or donate to local charities.

2. Organize your closet according to a set color scheme. Work from left to right, with the lightest items first working toward the darkest items on the right. Color coding your closet not only makes it look neater, but makes it easier to find garments in a hurry.

3. Fit hooks or nails on the interior walls of your closet, giving you extra room in your closet by using all available space. Hang handbags, sports bags or jackets, and leave the rest of the closet free for everyday clothes.

4. Install an extra set of closet rods if your close space is limited. Some closets come with adjustable bars that can be moved up and down the closet to maximize hanging space. Bars can also be purchased from hardware stores to fit various closet dimensions. Position one bar towards the top of the closet and one halfway down. You can now hang two sets of clothing where previously only one set would fit.

5. Fit shelves in the interior of your closet. Measure the length, width and depth of your closet space and cut segments of wood to fit available spaces. Secure the shelves using wall brackets or strong wood glue. Shelves can be used to store shoes and personal items such as jewelry.
