Sliding Closet Door Ideas

Closet

Sliding closet doors are very practical for rooms with limited space. When you have a small room, you do not want to put things in front of or next to closet doors, because it prevents you from opening the door all the way. Sliding doors prevent issues such as this. However, many sliding doors are just plain and don't have a sense of style, but there are some great ways you can dress them up. Does this Spark an idea?

Large Stencil

If you have wood sliding doors, a great way to dress them up is with a large stencil. You can purchase a large, pre-made stencil or you can make your own, which will allow your creative juices to flow. You can trace your stencil onto the closet doors and paint it or you can attach your stencil to the doors and use a sponge to dab paint into the stencil and paint the closet doors that way. You can add some beautiful, white trim moulding around your closet doors to finish the look off and outline your new stenciled closet doors.

Chalkboard Paint

If you want to dress up your sliding closet doors, chalkboard paint is a great way to add some drama. Chalkboard paint is inexpensive and it is especially wonderful for children's rooms because it gives them a chance to be creative and write on the walls so to speak. Parents can also write important reminders or messages on the closet doors, because children have to go to the closet every day to get clothes out to get dressed so they are guaranteed to get the message.

Shoji Screens

If your room is decorated in an Asian theme, then turning your mirrored closet doors into Shoji screens only makes sense. This is an inexpensive project. First, you will need a can of glass frosting to frost the mirrored sliding doors. Then, you can use thin pieces of wood trim to run vertically and horizontally to divide your closet doors into squares, giving your closet doors the appearance of Shoji screens.
