Mount European Hinges

European hinges come in two parts. One part of the hinge is mounted to the inside of the cabinet and the second part is mounted to the back side of the cabinet door. The two parts of the European hinge then latch together and hold the door in place while allowing it to open and close. European hinges are hidden on the inside of the cabinet. This means that when the cabinet door is closed, the hinge will not be visible. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the height of the cabinet door. For doors 40 inches or shorter you need two hinges. If the door is taller than 40 inches you will need three hinges.

2. Measure 3 inches up from the bottom of the cabinet door and 3 inches down from the top of the cabinet door. Mark these measurements on the back of the cabinet door. If the door is taller than 40 inches, measure the distance between these two marks and divide by two. This is where your center European hinge will be mounted.

3. Read the manufacturer's directions to find out how far from the edge of the door the hinge should be placed. This varies greatly depending on the size and style of hinge you have. Generally the edge of the hinge is placed 3/16 inches from the edge of the cabinet door.

4. Place the center of the hinge template that came with your hinges on the top mark. Trace the large hinge hole and two small screw holes. Repeat this process with the other marks.

5. Use a 1 3/8-inch Forstner drill bit to drill out the large circles, where the hinge base will be mounted. Drill them 1/2 inch deep. Use an 8 mm drill bit to drill the pilot holes in the screw mounting circles. These should also be 1/2-inch deep.

6. Place one of the hinge bases into a large hole. Line up the screw holes in the hinge with the pilot holes in the door. Insert the provided screws into the pilot holes and tighten to hold the hinge in place. Repeat with the other hinge bases.

7. Read the manufacturer's directions to determine where the hinge plates should be mounted on the inside of the cabinet. Generally, European hinge plates have lips that should be placed tight against the edge of the cabinet.

8. Mark the holes on the hinge plates against the side of the cabinet. Use a 8 mm drill bit to drill the pilot holes. Line the hinge plate's screw holes up with the pilot holes and secure the plate to the cabinet with the supplied screws. Repeat with the other hinge plates.

9. Place the hinges in the open position. Press the cups in the hinge into the cup holes in the hinge plate. Secure with the supplied screws. Repeat with the other hinges. Open and close the cabinet door. Adjust the screws in the hinge plates as needed.
