Install Closet Racks

Installing a closet rack is an easy project.

Installing a closet rack is a way of adding more storage space to a closet without expanding its size. A closet rack provides a place to hang clothes, store boxes and other items and keep things off the floor of the closet. Putting a closet rack in the closet is a simple project that can be finished in only a few minutes. Adding the rack requires a partner to help keep everyone safe while installing it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the interior of the closet and choose a rack that fits the measurements.

2. Work with a partner for safety. The partner will help hold the closet rack in place while it is being attached to the wall. If no one is available, a ladder can be used to hold the closet rack.

3. Choose a location in the closet for the rack. Hang it high enough that clothes can be hung off the floor, and low enough that items on the shelf can be reached without trouble. Place the rack at 5 to 6 feet off the ground.

4. Place the closet rack inside the closet. Put the back of the rack against the closet wall so that it is flush with the wall and move it up to the desired height.

5. Have a partner hold one end of the rack against the wall at the desired location. Use a screwdriver to attach the other end according to the manufacturer's instructions.

6. Move to the other side of the rack and attach it with screws. Use a level to ensure that the closet rack sits evenly. Use screws to attach any other supporting portions of the rack to the closet's interior.
