How Make A Closet Look Like Builtin Cabinetry

Molding can make a closet look like a built-in cabinent.

Although changing a closet to look like built-in cabinetry may sound difficult to do, this simple task requires limited construction skills. If you are uncomfortable with a saw, then ask the local hardware store to cut the pieces to size. By adjusting the size of wood molding for the outside of the closet and adding trim to the front of the closet door, you can give an illusion of a built-in cabinet without a large outlay of cash. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the side and top of the door frame and the inside door. Write these measurements down.

2. Mark the measurements on the wood molding for the door frame. Cut the molding at a 45-degree angle using the miter saw. Mark the measurement on the wood trim. Cut the 1/4 round door trim into 45-degree angles to form a rectangular border on the door.

3. Paint or stain the wood trim and molding. Match the color of the existing wood in the room.

4. Position the wood molding next to the door frame. Use the level to ensure the molding forms an even line. Place the 3-inch nail at the bottom of the molding and tap on the the nail head with the hammer until it goes through the molding. Add two more nails to the molding, one in the middle and the other on top. Install the molding to the other side and the top of the door frame.

5. Put the 1/4 inch round wood trim on the door. Apply glue to the back of the wood trim and place it 2 inches from the outer edge of the front of the door. Add glue to the other trim pieces to form a rectangular border inside the door.
