Replace A Sliding Closet Door Back On Track

Close your open closet by replacing the sliding door.

Sliding doors save space because they do not open out into the room. They are easier to take down and replace than hinged doors, making them easier to paint. This ease of removal sometimes means they come off their tracks when you do not want them to, especially if the tracks become dirty or bent. Luckily, it is easy to get them back on track. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Straighten the upper track with pliers if you find any places where the track is bent. Pound out any bends in the lower track with a hammer. A bent or dirty track will cause the door to jump the track.

2. Place a level on the track to be sure the track is even. Pound in the nails to lower any high places in the lower track or raise in any low places in the upper track.

3. Vacuum both tracks to remove any grit. Wipe the tracks with a cloth dipped in hot soapy water to remove any grease. Dry the tracks with a soft cloth.

4. Hold the door up horizontally and place the lower edge in the track. Locate the wheel on the top edge of the door. Pull this wheel down and position the top of the door under the upper track. Release the wheel so that it slips into the upper track.

5. Open and close the door a few times to be sure it is properly seated.
